- Rheumatoid Arthritis is a systemic disease which begins with a malfunction in the immune system
- White blood cells normally attack foreign invaders, but in Rheumatoid Arthritis they begin to attack healthy ligaments, tendons, and cartilage especially in the joints
- The synovium becomes inflamed and releases enzymes which eat away at the joint causing pain
Thanks for the video, Michelle. This was a nice, brief synopsis of what's going on in the body in RA. It's always a shocker when you learn about a disease, but then to see the people it affects brings it much closer to home. It left a lot of questions and was overly simplified, so I'm really looking forward to learning what the differences between RA and OA are.
ReplyDeleteYes thank you for that video. Truthfully because RA was something that did not really catch my attention in the past I did not know a lot about it so this video was a good into in the the problem. Due to the fact that arthritis is in the name in the past I just assumed that this was something that only effect the joints. But after looking up so more info about RA I found that, that was false and just by having RA the whole body will be effected and even more problems that just RA can occur. I am looking foward to learning more about RA in these next two weeks^_^
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this video, I really enjoyed this video! I thought that it gave a really good concise synopsis of rheumatoid arthritis and given from the perspective of girl with juvenile arthritis made it a lot more personal. I also previously thought arthritis was a disease that only affected joints and was also a disease mainly of the elderly, but from watching the video I now understand how it is a systemic disease and disease that also affects children too, in fact over 70,000 children in America!
